In the wake of a landmark week marked by the Supreme Court protecting healthcare and LGBT equality, we, at RMANJ, are deeply saddened by Gov. Christies veto of the New Jersey Gestational Carrier Agreement Act. With a simple swipe of his pen, he has single-handedly denied individuals, who are unable to carry a child, the ability to have a family. While gestational surrogacy plays a vital role in LGBT communities, the LGBT communities are not the only ones who suffer – there are numerous genetic and medical related reasons that prevent women from producing their own eggs or carrying children. Currently, fourteen states have gestational surrogacy agreements and we hope that one day soon New Jersey will be added to that list.
